Endodontics PDF Print E-mail

This is a treatment in which we extract the nerve or Dental pulp. We apply this treatment when the pulp is irreversibly affected by deep Caries, trauma, toothache, changes in colour, boils, large cuts or severe periodontal lesions.

Initially we perforate the tooth affected and remove the infected pulp. Then we clean, enlarge and shape the root canals and, lastly, we fill them with a material that impedes the proliferation of germs.

Generally, within 1 session we can restore the interior of the tooth. It is advisable to cover it with a Crown, as after an Endodontia the teeth are more fragile and can fracture easily. There may be some transitory discomfort when chewing for a couple of days, due to the irritation of the periodontal tissue surrounding the root. If this is the case, please tell us.

Urgent situations in endodontics:

Sharp pain
Sharp pain indicates that the nerve is affected and it is necessary to perform an ENDODONTIA. Call us urgently. If possible, we will perform a full endodontia; if not we will create an emergency aperture whereby the pain will disappear, and then on a subsequent appointment we will complete the treatment.

Abscess
Is a collection of pus and it is necessary to empty it in order to avoid the bacterial dissemination of the infection. Call us so that we may drain the pus.

Trauma
Trauma (fracture, luxation or tooth loss) is a reason to URGENTLY attend our surgery. The prognosis for a tooth that has suffered trauma will depend on how quickly treatment is begun.
