The teeth are fundamental for correct alimentation and their loss represents both an aesthetic and functional problem that affects a large part of the population, and therefore in recent years great efforts have been taken to ensure their preservation. Implants have become the standard method for replacing lost teeth in the most natural way.

PHASES OF THE PROCESS a. A study of the case. A panoramic radiography is normally necessary and on occasions a scan in order to determine the quantity and quality of available bone and the ideal location in which to insert the implants.
b. Insertion of the implants. The intervention tends to last between 10 and 20 minutes per implant, it is not in the least painful and is normally carried out under local anaesthetic. Post-operatively, there will be a slight inflammation which will pass after a couple of days.
c. Osteointegration phase. This is the time it takes for the implants to “stick” to the bone. Currently this period has been much reduced an often implants can be inserted in just 1 to 3 months, although in specific cases it is not necessary to wait for the osteointegration and from the very first moment the teeth are attached. During this phase provisional dentures can be worn.
d. Attachment of the prosthesis. In the final phase moulds of the implants are taken and the prosthesis is made to measure.
WHEN THERE ISN’T ANY BONE To insert an implant it is necessary for the bone to have a determined height and width. In the event of there not being sufficient bone there are several procedures for increasing bone mass. There are practically no set of circumstances in which implants cannot be inserted.
Your oral and maxillofacial surgeon has the techniques and training to regenerate your bone whenever necessary.
SEARCHING FOR GUARANTEES Implants are a safe and reliable method for dental rehabilitation but they are not exempt from complications. Like for any surgical procedure, specific training is needed as well as adequate experience. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are doctors who carry out hospital training in the maxillofacial department, where they acquire the specific knowledge to enable them to perform surgical interventions in the mouth and the maxillas.
