Dental Prostheses PDF Print E-mail

Prosthodontics or dental prostheses is the branch of odontology that is dedicated to returning the altered function, anatomy, phonation and aesthetic of the stomatognathic system as a consequence of the loss of one or more teeth. These prostheses may be fixed prostheses such as a bridge, or removable prostheses if they can be removed; they can also be partial or complete depending on whether they cover a limited number of teeth or the whole dental arch, respectively.

The prosthesis is an artifice whose objective is to restore masticatory function, stability in the occlusal relation, phonetics and aesthetics. It can be cemented, screwed in or mechanically joined to a natural tooth, to an implanted pillar or a tooth in root stage, with the ability to replace one sole tooth or a multitude of teeth, even up to the totality of the dental arches.

Prostheses are divided into fixed and removable whilst also being either total or partial.
