Dental implants are titanium fixtures that are inserted into the Maxilla or jawbone to replace deteriorated or absent teeth. You can thereby very simply recuperate lost teeth.

This procedure is carried out under local anaesthesia (without loss of consciousness). Often the extraction of the deteriorated tooth is used to also insert the implant at the same time and thereby avoid the need for a second intervention. Implants inserted in this way are called immediate implants and imply great convenience and speed in the performance of these treatments.

TYPES OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

There are various types of dental implants. Amongst others, of note are the following:

An artificial bone substitute: this type of implant consists in the insertion of a synthetic bone substitute in the upper part of the implant to help rebuild the reduced rim and provide solid support for false teeth. Given that it is made from the same type of mineral found in natural bone, this type of implant melds with the existing maxillary bone.

Endosteal implants: This type of implant is inserted into the maxilla in order to act as a root for the tooth.

Subperiosteal implants: for some people, above all those who have feeble or poorly adjusted false teeth, or those who have lost various teeth and need a support for crowns and Bridges, implants can be considered to be the most appropriate alternative, instead of false teeth, in order to remedy the appearance created by the missing teeth. According to the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics, the use of implants implies certain advantages over false teeth, given that implants help to: reduce the movement of the false teeth, bridges and/or crowns; facilitate adequate mastication; provide improved support and stability for removable false teeth or fixed bridges; come closer to the sensation of natural teeth than false teeth; promote self-esteem given that speech and appearance often improve. Subperiosteal implants are particularly recommended for these people. They consist of a specially designed implant which fits directly into the existing bone.
